This rosemale is on reclaimed piece of siding salvaged by me from an old farm house. These pieces are minimally refinished and have some bumps and and bruises. I tried to keep them as natural as possible to let the beauty of the wood show through. They do have a protective layer of lacquer.

Rosemaling (rose painting) is a traditional painting style found mostly in Norway. It varies by region and sometimes even town and dates back to the mid 1700’s. They would have used this decorative painting throughout their homes, including door frames, cabinetry and furniture. It surged in popularity in the 1970’s and 1980’s in the Upper Midwest. Everyone’s Aunt and Mom took classes and painted bread boards and trinket boxes were a common Christmas gift.

These rosemaling pieces were born out of me moving back to my roots to a predominantly Norwegian community in SE MN. The history and community has inspired me to gather wood pieces from construction projects of vintage houses and local woodworker friends and to Rosemale them!

I hope these small pieces make the perfect addition to your decor with history, memories and fun!

Thanks much!

All of my Rosemales are on reclaimed and saved wood. I scour the town and countryside for remodeling projects both from constructions sites and fine woodworkers. Most of the wood pieces have inclusions or were off cuts so they may have bark or knots. Some of the construction pieces may have nailholes or other construction wear. Some are newer and some are decades old. They are all sealed with professional lacquer. I think all of the wear and natural elements give my pieces more interest and honesty that you don't find in store bought wood.
